The launch of BSafe in the UK has grabbed the attention of the angling press, with all three weeklies running major stories.
Anglers Mail splashed the story over two pages under the headline: “New Fishing Nets Fight Disease” and flagged up that it has received the support of the Angling Trust.
Angling Times also ran a lead story under a similar headline: ‘New Nets Aid Fight Against Disease’ – quoting fisheries consultant Bruno Broughton, who said: “This welcome move will lead to better, fish safe nets and other products which will raise the bar for fish health care standards.”
The story also caught the eye of Carp Talk, the weekly for carp anglers in the UK, who quickly realised its application in carp care on products like unhooking mats, weigh slings and retaining sacks, as well as landing nets.
With individual carp worth many thousands of pounds, many fisheries are moving towards supplying their own nets and unhooking mats rather than allow anglers to bring their own onto fisheries, and BSafe is already in discussion with several venues about becoming BSafe Accredited Fisheries.
Bruno Broughton added: “Initial enquiries have stimulated an extremely positive response from fishery owners. BSafe merits widespread adoption.”
